Staff need training to support residents with mental health issues

Residential aged care staff need more training to support residents with mental health issues, a dementia expert has stated. Professor Elizabeth Beattie from the Dementia Collaborative Research Centre: Carers and Consumers, explained that moving into residential aged care can exacerbate any existing mental health issues, and that care staff need to be trained to provide therapeutic care.
